Also Known as: Zola-la, Zola-cheeky-girl, & Wing-nut
Meaning: Zola means ‘stay in peace’ (South African Xhosa language). It is also the name of the well-loved famous French writer Emile Zola . So when I was living in France, the French humans found it easy to remember my name. They liked to call me ‘Big dog Zola’! Well, with a French accent it actually sounds more like ‘Beeg derg Zola’! I don’t think I’m that big but compared to the average size dogs (the Shorties!) on the French Riviera, perhaps I was rather tall?

Just discovered you and your wonderful website. We’ve got a gorgeous pedigreed Dobermann, age 14 months, who also has the good fortune to enjoy life on the French Riviera with us. Glad to see that Shem’s bloodline is still going strong….I had one of his sons, a brilliant dog unfortunately now deceased but fondly remembered..seeing your site brought back many a happy memory! Sharka Zulu from Australia thinks he is in love with Zola who is very beautiful. Sharka is very handsome and looks a lot like Zola. He is 2 and 1/2 from champion Aussie stock and at 52 kilos is a big lovable sooky dog who loves going to the local off leash dog park (with its own beach) and lying on the couch just snoozing.
